Laser Hair Removal
Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, the patient who is tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair may welcome laser and intense pulsed light hair removal with relief. Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface and converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth for up to two years. Multiple treatments are required for complete hair removal. The follicle must be in the growing phase at the time of treatment, and not all follicles are in the growing phase simultaneously. Treatments are needle-free and do not require anesthesia. Most patients feel nothing more than a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band.
Dr. Matt uses long wavelength lasers to safely and effectively reduce hair on patients with light or dark skin as well as tanned skin.

Spider veins / Leg Veins
Spider veins are visible red or blue blood vessels that may spread like a web across the skin anywhere on the body, but most commonly on the face and legs. They form when surface vessels dilate (expand). Spider veins are not usually harmful, although they can cause pain, for example, after long periods of standing. Varicose veins are blood vessels with weak walls that swell or balloon outward, raising the skin surface. Unlike spider veins, varicose veins can indicate poor vascular health if the swelling is caused by phlebitis (inflamed tender vein), thrombosis (clot), or venous stasis ulcers (open sores).
Dr. Matt treats unwanted spider veins or leg veins with lasers and sclerotherapy. The treatment is individualized to each patient.

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat spider veins by injecting a solution into the veins which causes them to gradually disappear. By injecting a salt solution, known as a sclerosing solution, the lining of the veins become irritated and eventually turns into scar tissue that then fades away. This method is the preferred treatment for spider veins and has been used since the 1930s.
This procedure is usually performed in your doctor's office and takes no more than an hour. Most patients need 2 to 4 treatments in order to achieve desired results. There is no downtime other than avoiding strenuous activities for the first 2 to 3 days.
While sclerotherapy is proven as an effective treatment for spider veins, it is not recommended for everybody. Pregnant women and those whose saphenous vein are affected are not typically eligible for this procedure. Sclerotherapy is not effective for large varicose veins and is only recommended for smaller, superficial veins. Talk to your doctor to find out if sclerotherapy is right for you.

Pearl™ Laser Skin Resurfacing
As we age, our skin begins to change as a result of several different life factors. The natural collagen within the skin begins to diminish and skin may sag and droop. Smoking, alcohol consumption, sun exposure, nutrition and more can also lead to the development of wrinkles and fine lines within the skin. Other skin conditions such as acne, brown spots and chicken pox can leave unattractive blemishes on the skin.
Laser skin resurfacing with Pearl™ is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage and other skin irregularities. It offers patients many advantages over traditional resurfacing procedures such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion, as it practically eliminates side effects such as discomfort, bleeding and bruising.
Although laser skin resurfacing using the same basic principles of other procedures and treats aging, damaged skin by removing a layer of skin, it does so through a noninvasive procedure that uses laser energy to remove as much skin as needed. This allows for a much deeper removal through more precise and less invasive techniques.

Skin Titan™

The Titan™ is a safe, non-surgical procedure that uses an infrared light source to tighten skin and reverse the signs of aging. The Titan™ device uniformly distributes heat below the skin, causing collagen contraction, while preserving the outer layer of skin through continuous cooling. This process stimulates long-term collagen rebuilding, leaving patients with younger-looking skin. The procedure tones, lifts and tightens skin on the face and neck and can be used to treat lax, loose or wrinkled skin throughout the body—including the abdomen, thighs and arms. The result is a more youthful, fresh complexion and long-lasting, tighter skin without injections, surgery or recovery time.
The Titan™ is cleared for treatment of wrinkles in Europe and for general dermatologic use in Canada. In the US, it is cleared for topical heating to increase local tissue temperature and circulation. An additional 510(k) clearance is pending in the US for the treatment of wrinkles.

Intense Pulse Light
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology uses high-energy pulses of light to provide long-lasting results. IPL skin resurfacing, collagen stimulation, vein therapy and photoepilation improve skin texture and appearance and remove hair from any area of the body without damaging nearby tissue. Hair, veins or pigmented regions on the skin surface selectively absorb the pulses of light, shrinking or fading after treatment; collagen tightens, smoothing the skin. Patients can return to work and all regular activities immediately after the procedure. Skin appearance should improve soon after treatment. Hair loss is immediate and long-lasting. Several treatments may be desired for optimal results.
